“The process of living is like taking a very long road trip. The destination may be important, but the journey experienced day to day and week to week is what is invaluable.”
- Steven Hayes, Creator of ACT
WHAT IS ACCEPTANCE & COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT) ?
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a therapeutic modality that helps you stay focused on the present moment while accepting your thoughts and feelings without judgment.
The main goal this evidence based practice is to help clients view their situation as it is rather than trying to change or alter it.
the six core PROCESSES of
ACCEPTANCE & COMMITMENT THerapy (ACT)
Acceptance: Creating space for emotions, thoughts, and feelings that we might otherwise push down or avoid.
Cognitive Defusion: A mindfulness strategy that involves recognizing our experiences objectively rather than subjectively.
Being Present: Rather than thinking about the past or worrying about the future, you are completely focused on right now.
Self as Context: The understanding that experiences, thoughts, and emotions are ever-changing.
Values: The process in which you explore the things that we do (and do not) hold personally meaningful.
Committed Action: Creating value based, long-term goals.
